About
Dutch-born Evelin van Rei is a London and Amsterdam-based photographer and cinematographer whose practice moves fluidly between moving and still image.Guided by instinct and emotion, her visual language is driven by a deep sensitivity to light, atmosphere, fascination with the human condition, and an innate desire for connection and purpose. Her imagery echoes the poetic and tenebrous qualities of painting - visceral, textured, precise, and quietly macabre - leaving a lingering sense of intimacy and presence.
Rooted in the tactile qualities of analogue film, her work balances naturalism with stylisation, embracing imperfection to create images that feel observed rather than manufactured. Whether working on narrative projects, commercials, or photographic commissions, Evelin seeks authentic, bold, and visually authored collaborations.
Evelin is a voting member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, a member of the Netherlands Society of Cinematographers, and recipient of the Angénieux Special Encouragement Award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Selected work: Purgatory (Toronto Film Festival), Passenger (BAFTA Cymru winner for Photography & Lighting: Fiction), Bad Sisters for Apple TV+ (BAFTA winner for Best Drama Series).
